What is the learning method like? |
| Studying in Australia will be very different from studying at home. Besides getting used to living in a different culture, you should also be prepared to learn in a different culture. Learning in Australia is more independent, which encourages students to be self-motivated in completing readings, undertaking research and meeting deadlines. The learning method has a mixture of lectures, tutorials, and laboratory or practical sessions. Don’t be shocked when your classmates refer to your professor by their first name, it’s normal. Aussies live in an “Egalitarian culture” which means that everyone is on the same level, even professors and students. That does not mean professors are not respected, they are. Students also are encouraged to express their ideas and tutors and lecturers appreciate when student question or provide feedback on their teachings rather than just accepting what they say is correct. Learning in Australia is not about memorising textbooks; it’s about understanding what you’ve learnt and applying them and it’s about learning to think and making decisions. |
